Court grants woman ₦10m bail for making death threats against Tinubu’s son
Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Olamide Thomas, who is accused of making death threats against Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. The bail was set at ₦10 million with one surety in the same amount.
While delivering the ruling on the bail application, Justice Nwite stated:
“I have carefully examined the affidavit evidence of both the defendant and the complainant. The defendant would not jump bail nor interfere with the trial. It is in the interest of justice for the court to grant the bail request.”
The court outlined conditions for the bail, including that the surety must present an affidavit of means, a three-year tax clearance certificate, and reside within the court’s jurisdiction. Both the defendant and the surety are required to submit two recent passport photographs, and the surety’s address must be verified.
The trial has been adjourned to February 18, 2025.
Thomas was arraigned on December 20, 2024, on three counts of harassment and threats against Seyi Tinubu, IG Kayode Egbetokun, and Police Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi. She pleaded not guilty and was remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre until her bail hearing.
According to the charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/636/2024, the police allege that Thomas made a video in Yoruba, stating:
“Seyi Tinubu would die this year, and misfortune and calamity have befallen the Tinubu family.”
The police claimed the remarks caused fear of death and violence for Seyi. Similarly, the defendant is accused of transmitting threatening communications against the IG and Adejobi, stating in the same video that Adejobi’s children would all die, and he would bury them on the same day.

The prosecutor argued that these actions violated Sections 24 (2)(a) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, and Amendment) Act 2024.
On December 31, 2024, Justice Nwite reserved the ruling on Thomas’s bail application after hearing arguments from her counsel, T.J. Anondo, and the prosecution, led by Victor Okoye.
The case remains under scrutiny as trial proceedings are set to begin next month.
