Court remands lawyer for alleged murder, disruption

An Abakaliki Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ebonyi State has remanded Sunday Ununu, a 45-year-old lawyer, following allegations of murder and disruption of court proceedings.

Ununu appeared in court on Friday facing a two-count charge of unlawful possession of a firearm and murder.

The charges, preferred against him by the police, relate to an incident that occurred on August 21 in Agbaja-Unuhu, Abakaliki Local Government Area.

According to the prosecution, led by ASP Eze Ndubuaku, Ununu allegedly caused the death of Nnamdi Nwite-Ugo by shooting him.

The charges also cite violations of Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 33, Vol. 1 Laws of Ebonyi 2009 and Section 11 of the Ebonyi State Internal Security Enforcement and Other Related Matters Law, 2009.

During the court session, Ununu reportedly created a disturbance by shouting and subsequently walked out of the dock without following proper procedures. This behaviour led Magistrate Mr. Ojemba Isu-Oko to order his remand at the correctional centre.

The case has been adjourned until September 20 for further hearing. The Magistrate’s decision to remand Ununu underscores the seriousness of the allegations and the need for a thorough investigation into the charges against him.
