Customs boss, Adewale, charges decorated officers to uphold ethical standards; “We will,” responds DCG Chiroma

The Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adeniyi Adewale, has urged eight newly-promoted senior officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to prioritize ethical standards and demonstrate greater commitment to their responsibilities.

The promotion ceremony, held at the NCS Headquarters in Abuja, saw the decoration of one Deputy Comptroller General (DCG) and seven Assistant Comptroller Generals (ACGs), all recognized for their exceptional service and contributions to the Customs’ operations.

The CGC emphasized that the promotions were merit-based, involving rigorous examinations and strict adherence to the Service’s established procedures.

This approach ensures that only the most deserving officers are elevated to positions of greater responsibility.

Adeniyi tasked the newly-promoted officers to serve as role models and mentors to younger personnel.

He emphasized the need to nurture upcoming officers, ensuring they are well-equipped to carry on the Service’s mandate.

The Customs boss also underscored the broader impact of their leadership on the nation’s revenue generation, anti-smuggling efforts, and trade facilitation.

Responding on behalf of the decorated officers, DCG S Chiroma expressed gratitude to the NCS Board and the CGC for the recognition.

He assured the leadership of their commitment to upholding the Service’s standards and delivering on its constitutional mandates.

“The reward for hard work is more work, and to whom much is given, much is expected. We are going to do our best in ensuring that the Customs continue to remain committed to its constitutional mandates,” DCG Chiroma said.

This development comes on the heels of the Nigeria Customs Service’s recent promotion of 4,291 senior officers and the appointment of one Deputy Comptroller General (DCG) and eight Assistant Comptrollers General (ACGs).

The Service has also approved the promotion of 1,419 junior officers across various ranks.

These moves aim to enhance operational efficiency, promote inclusivity, and recognize exceptional performance within the Service.
