Customs intercept 15 trucks in Sokoto loaded with food items
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has successfully intercepted 15 trucks transporting food items in Sokoto State, intensifying its efforts to curb smuggling, a contributing factor to the escalating cost of commodities in the country.
Mr. Abubakar Chafe, the Spokesperson for NCS Sokoto Command, confirmed the interception along the Gwadabawa-Illela road. Chafe revealed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday that the vehicles were apprehended based on the substantial quantity of farm produce they were transporting.
Currently under the custody of the customs command, the intercepted trucks are undergoing investigation to determine the owners and intended destinations of the seized food items.
Chafe clarified that the operation involved a collaborative effort between the NCS Sokoto Command, Officers of Federal Operation Unit, and the Intelligent Unit of the Service.

The interception operation was deemed necessary in response to the prevailing inflation of food items in the country, highlighting the Customs Service’s commitment to addressing smuggling activities impacting the cost of essential commodities.
