Customs launches CVMS in Abuja to end vehicle verification fraud

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has achieved a significant milestone in its modernisation drive with the launch of the Customs Verification Management System (CVMS) on Monday, October 20, in Abuja.
This new digital platform is set to redefine vehicle verification across the country.
During his welcome address, Mr. Ajibola Adetula, MD of AfriPoint Consult, underscored the importance of the new system, stating that “data is the new gold, and processing it into information is key to informed decision-making. Google’s $350 billion revenue from data processing is a testament to its value.”

The launch of the CVMS is a bold step towards digital transformation by the NCS. For years, verification relied on fragmented and outdated methods, which led to misinformation, fraud, and revenue loss. The CVMS directly addresses these challenges, enabling customs to work smarter, faster, and more transparent.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, highlighted the system’s benefits, saying that the CVMS “improves decision-making, enforcement, and national security by ensuring imported vehicles are properly captured, verifiable, and traceable.”
The public is a key beneficiary, as the system empowers Nigerians “with information to make safe and informed vehicle purchase decisions. Verification is simple, reliable, and fast, and the public is encouraged to use the platform with confidence.”
Under the Controller-General’s leadership, the Nigeria Customs Service remains committed to modernisation and transformation. The CVMS is a notable example of this vision, demonstrating the service’s adaptability, integrity, and innovation.

The administration acknowledged the contributions of partners, including TNP and Mr. Adeola, whose commitment was instrumental in bringing the project to life.
With CVMS, the NCS is taking a bold step towards a more transparent, efficient, and technology-driven service. The service is confident that “the era of information asymmetry is over, and Nigerians can now make informed decisions.”
The NCS reiterated that “modernisation is a continuous commitment, and together, Nigeria Customs is not just keeping pace with change but leading it.”
