The 2026 Daniski Gudi Hills Annual Cultural Festival served as the stage for a major historic announcement, the forthcoming designation of both Daniski Hills and Gudi Hills as National Heritage Sites.

Mr Ralph Usiju Mamza, representing the National Commission for Museums and Monuments, made the declaration on Saturday.

“We are here to celebrate two hills that symbolise our history and heritage,” Mamza stated, affirming the federal government’s commitment to preserving these iconic landmarks.

The festival, celebrating the rich traditions of the Fika community, was presided over by His Royal Highness, the Emir of Fika, Alhaji (Dr.) Muhammadu Abali Ibn Muhammadu Idrissa.

In his address, the Emir framed the gathering as more than a celebration.

“This festival is a vital opportunity to showcase our unique customs, languages, arts, and crafts,” said the Emir emphasising its role in strengthening cultural identity across generations.

Yobe State’s commitment to tangible support was outlined by Deputy Governor Idi Barde Gubana, who represented Governor Mai Mala Buni.

Gubana pledged to advance plans for constructing permanent festival structures at Daniski, including public shades and conveniences.

He also highlighted ongoing state-led cultural projects, including a committee to sustain traditional wrestling and the restoration of the ancient Dufuna canoe.

Leaders uniformly called for increased cooperation among the emirates of Yobe and the North-East to support the documentation and preservation of the region’s cultural properties.
