David Marlow replaces Dr Pate as CEO of Gavi

Gavi, the vaccine alliance based in Geneva, Switzerland, announced on June 26th, 2023, that David Marlow has been appointed as the interim Chief Executive Officer, effective from August 3rd, 2023.

Marlow is Gavi’s current Chief Operating Officer, his appointment comes after the announcement from Dr. Muhammad Pate, who had been approved by the Gavi Board in February to become Gavi’s next CEO, that he will not join Gavi.

Dr. Pate cited an opportunity to contribute to his home country of Nigeria as the reason behind his decision.

While Gavi fully respects Dr. Pate’s decision, the board is looking forward to working with Marlow, who has been a crucial part of the Gavi team. The Gavi Board expresses their confidence in the strength of their leadership team and Alliance to support this transition smoothly.

The board is committed to continuing their mission and strategic priorities while searching for their next CEO. The Gavi Board is grateful for Dr. Pate’s contributions and wishes him all the best for his future endeavors. Dr. Pate thanked the Gavi Board Chair, board members, and Gavi staff for their ongoing support. He also mentioned that he will continue to champion the Gavi mission passionately.
