DHQ  plans release of wanted bandit leaders’ names, photos

The Defence Headquarters is gearing up to disclose the identities and images of newly identified terrorist and bandit leaders, according to reliable sources.

Following recent military operations that led to the elimination of key terrorist and bandit figures, a new batch of wanted leaders has emerged. In November 2022, the DHQ had declared 19 bandit leaders wanted, offering a bounty of N5 million on each.

Among the prominent figures on the wanted list were Bello Turji from Fakai village, Zamfara State; Ali Kachalla, aka Ali Kawaje, from Kuyambara village in Danaadau Maru LG of Zamfara State; and Ado Aliero, from Yankuzo village, Tsafe LGA, Zamfara State, among others.

A source familiar with the matter disclosed that the military is compiling a new list of wanted terrorists, which will include their photographs. The public will be urged to cooperate by providing information to aid in their capture.

In response to inquiries, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, confirmed that work is underway on the new list and assured that it will be released soon.

Recent military operations have resulted in the deaths of several terrorist and bandit leaders, including notorious figures like Boderi, who was implicated in high-profile kidnappings, and Bodejo, who was killed in February 2024. Additionally, between February 1 and 28, 2024, troops eliminated ten terrorist kingpins, further decimating the leadership of criminal networks in the region.

The commitment of the Defence Headquarters to neutralising these threats underscores its determination to ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
