Dismissed police woman threatens to kill her children, commit suicide over rape incident

A former police officer in Edo State, Inspector Edith Uduma, has threatened to take her life and that of her children following her dismissal from the police force.
The dismissal came after she exposed an alleged rape incident involving her colleague, Sergeant Abraham.
Uduma claims she was unfairly dismissed by the state police command and that the public has not heard her side of the story.
Her dismissal followed the release of a viral video she captured in October showing Sergeant Abraham in a compromising position with a 17-year-old girl at a police station in South Ibie, Edo State.
In the video, the officer was seen quickly dressing and questioning why Uduma was recording. The girl appeared lying on a chair during the incident.
According to police sources, both Uduma and Sergeant Abraham were dismissed after an orderly room trial. However, the Edo State Police Command released a statement in November alleging that Uduma conspired with her husband, Inspector Ibrahim Mohammed, to extort N1 million from Abraham in exchange for covering up the incident. When Abraham reportedly offered N45,000 instead, the video was leaked online.
The police statement read: “Contrary to reports from certain quarters, the said female police officer, AP/no 228719 Insp. Edith Uduma, was the Charge Room Officer on October 7, 2024, the night F/No. 504694 Sgt Abraham allegedly raped a female suspect in the station.
“Instead of reporting the incident, Uduma allegedly took advantage of the situation to demand N1 million from Sgt. Abraham with her husband’s help.”
Uduma’s husband was also demoted, but Uduma denied the extortion claims in an interview. She insisted she was never given a fair hearing and that her dismissal was a result of her lack of influential connections. She tearfully stated, “What the Edo Command is saying is not what happened. They know I have no rank or support to fight back.”
Uduma further revealed that the Force Headquarters in Abuja was still investigating the matter, while the Edo command hastily dismissed her. “I want justice. My dismissal is unjust,” she said, adding that her husband had no involvement in the alleged extortion.

In an emotional outburst, she threatened, “If Nigerians refuse to listen to me – because my husband has been in detention, and they have been looking for me to arrest me, to charge me to court – if Nigeria refuses to listen to me, I will just poison all my children and myself. I will die. Because I’m just stranded like this.”
Uduma also claimed that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at the station encouraged her to ask Sergeant Abraham for the N1 million as part of a negotiation when the sergeant reportedly fled after the incident. She expressed shock at how the police force turned the situation against her.
“If the police force can do this to a police officer, how much more to innocent civilians?” she lamented.
The Edo Police spokesperson, Moses Yamu, has not responded to requests for comment.
