Zamfara State Council of Chiefs yesterday called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to ignore demands by individuals or groups for the redeployment of the state Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Nagogo, in the interest of peace.

The council said allowing the police commissioner to continue with his work in the state, would go a long way in sustaining the relative peace being enjoyed in the state.

In a press conference addressed by Chairman, Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, who also doubles as Emir of Zamfara-Anka, Alhaji Attahiru Muhammad Ahmad, the council said information reaching it, indicated that there were moves by some politicians to force the redeployment of the state commissioner of police.

The Emir said: “We are aware that some unpatriotic politicians have embarked on movements in their efforts to entice the Inspector- General of Police (IGP) to direct the immediate transfer of the Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Nagogo.

“If succeeded, the Peace Initiative for Resolution, which was actively supported by the commissioner of police that led to the restoration of peace in Zamfara State, may derail, causing a return to merciless killings, kidnappings and cattle rustling.

“The deployment of CP Usman Nagogo to Zamfara State served as a great success, especially for Governor Matawalle’s administration that had embarked upon crusades to ensure total restoration of peace through dialogue with bandits and kidnappers.

“The active participation of CP Nagogo in the battle against banditry and other heinous crimes in Zamfara in the year 2016, when he served as Deputy Commissioner of Police, has tremendously earned him formidable knowledge to, within the shortest time possible, help to return law and order in the state,” the chairman said.

The Emir further claimed that before the deployment of Nagogo, the state was ungovernable as there was nowhere in the state where legitimate businesses could be run, a development which according to him, had compelled thousands of people to flee the state.
