Drama in Edo as Police report robbers to shrine (Video)
In a gripping twist of events, the Ugbine community in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, has turned to spiritual intervention after criminals boldly burgled a newly constructed police station, stealing electrical cables and electronics.
Frustrated by the failure of the police to apprehend the culprits, the Odionwere (community leader), Pa Usiobaifo Osayande, along with elders and youth leaders, summoned the powers of Ayelala and Sango, revered deities of justice and retribution.
On Friday, the usually peaceful community came alive with the sounds of incantations and rituals as the priests, armed with sacred items, moved through the area, invoking curses on the yet-to-be-identified criminals.
“The theft of public property, especially from a police station meant to protect us, is an insult not just to humanity but to the gods themselves,” Pa Osayande declared. “If the law can not catch them, the gods will!”
The incident has sparked outrage, with many questioning how a police station—designed to be a symbol of security—could be so easily breached. Critics argue that the turn to traditional spiritual intervention underscores a glaring weakness in local law enforcement.
A visibly enraged Okaighele (youth leader) said, “When the police fail to deliver justice, our ancestors must step in. This is a disgrace!”
The priests of Ayelala and Sango left no stone unturned in their quest for divine justice. Their fiery chants filled the air as they cursed the culprits, calling on the deities to unleash unrelenting punishment until the stolen items are returned.
The community watched in tense silence as the ritual unfolded. The sight of sacred rites being invoked to restore order brought both relief and fear to the onlookers. Many have voiced their hope that justice will now be served, even if it means relying on spiritual forces.
The stolen items—critical for the operations of the station—have left the community in limbo, with many calling for improved security measures and a reassessment of the police force’s effectiveness.
Will the Gods Deliver Where the Police Have Failed?
As the priests concluded their rituals, they warned that the curses would remain active until the criminals are caught or come forward to confess. “The gods are watching,” the chief priest declared with finality.
While the police have yet to comment on their apparent reliance on spiritual intervention, one thing is clear: the Ugbine community is determined to see justice served, whether through human law or divine wrath.
