Nigeria police begin disciplinary action against ASP Newton Isokpehi over viral death threat video

The Nigeria Police Force has commenced disciplinary proceedings against Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Newton Isokpehi following a viral video in which he threatened to kill anyone who attempted to film him while on duty.

The officer sparked outrage on social media after a video surfaced online showing him warning Nigerians against recording police officers during operations.

In the viral clip, Isokpehi allegedly threatened to shoot passengers inside a commercial vehicle if anyone attempted to use a mobile phone to record him while carrying out official duties.

Reacting to the incident, the Nigeria Police Force condemned the officer’s conduct, describing his comments as unprofessional and inconsistent with the ethics, standards and operational procedures of the Force.

Police authorities confirmed that the officer had been identified and subjected to internal disciplinary processes in line with established regulations governing the conduct of personnel.

The Force assured members of the public that necessary sanctions would be applied after the completion of investigations, stressing that acts of intimidation, abuse and misconduct by officers would not be tolerated.

The incident has continued to generate widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians demanding accountability and improved professionalism among security operatives across the country.

The police also urged citizens to remain law-abiding while continuing to report cases of misconduct involving officers through appropriate channels.
