EFCC urged to probe corruption allegations against ex-Governors

A public affairs commentator, Ken Okolugbo, has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate corruption allegations against former governors.

Okolugbo, a former commissioner of Delta. State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), made this statement on Channels Television’s “Inside Sources” with Laolu Akande on Friday.

He emphasized the need for the EFCC to make public the report of the probe into the Humanitarian Affairs Ministry. Okolugbo praised the current administration’s efforts in fighting corruption, stating that President Bola Tinubu has been vigorous in his war against corruption. He also commended the EFCC’s prosecution of former government officials, including ex-governors and ministers.

However, Okolugbo criticized the previous administration’s decision to grant pardon to former governors Jolly Nyame and Joshua Dariye, who were convicted of corruption charges.

He urged the new EFCC chairman to revisit such cases and ensure that those found guilty face justice.

Okolugbo emphasized the connection between poverty and corruption, stressing the need for a thorough and impartial investigation into corruption allegations against former governors.

He also called for the EFCC to sanitize its ranks of “bad eggs” to ensure the effectiveness of the anti-corruption fight.
