Eight persons were killed and scores of houses were burnt in Plateau State on Wednesday.
The attacks occurred in Abonong and Zayit villages of Foron District in Barikin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.
“The communities were attacked by unknown gunmen which resulted in the death of the eight persons with 95 houses burnt and 310 cattle rustled by the assailants.
Although the police did not provide any identity of the attackers, Jatau Gyang, a Berom community spokesperson, accused armed Fulani herdsmen of launching the attack.
“Prior the attack there were evidences that the Fulani would launch the attack. This has been their usual way attacking people,” he said.
“Until decisive action is taken by Nigerian government, against killer herdsmen to stop the ethnic cleansing and land grabbing, the government shall one be held accountable for crime against humanity,” Mr Gyang said.
The Command said the gunmen took to their heels on sighting a team of police officers who arrived in the communities after a distress call.
The police spokesperson said during the attack, properties and food were stolen and destroyed.
He said the police have mobilised more personnel to the area to prevent further violence, and that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the attackers and he appealed to all parties to eschew violence and remain calm.
