El-Zakzaky trial paralyses economic activities in Kaduna, bail pending

Economic  activities were completely paralysed on Wednesday as the Kaduna State Government arraigned  leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibraim Zakzaky  at a Kaduna State High Court. Kaduna metropolis central business  district  was completely on lock down as pedestrian and vehicular movements were completely restricted.
Heavily armed combined security personnel mounted road  blocks on major roads and streets leading to the court premises were effectively sealed Banks, schools, shops and even the central market were all deserted, with all the premises under lock.
Ahmadu Bello Way axis, a long stretch from the Lagos street roundabout to the NEPA roundabout was on lock down.
Similarly, on Independence Way, the stretch from Police College Roundabout to Waff Road junction was cordoned off.
Link roads to the court, including Bida Road, Ibrahim Taiwo Road.
Counsel to the accused, Maxwell Kyon said that they are optimistic that on the next hearing,the bail  application filed would be granted by the court.
He said the application which was filed about a month ago,suffered delays  because they got the reply from the government  on night of Tuesday July 10, 2018.
On why they are optimistic, He said they are hopeful that based on the health conditions of Sheikh Zakzaky and his wife.
Solicitor General and  Permanent Secretary Ministry of Justice Kaduna  State, Chris Umar said that the case was adjourned because they were unable to  serve the third accused, Sheikh Yakubu Yahaya Katsina and fourth, Dr Sanusi Abdulkadir Kano. The case was adjourned to 2 August 2018.
