Robot dogs set to boost security operations at 2026 World Cup in Mexico
Mexican authorities have unveiled a pack of high-tech robot dogs that will assist police in maintaining security during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The four-legged machines, presented on Monday by officials in Guadalupe, Nuevo León, are built to move into potentially dangerous environments and stream real-time video back to officers. The live feed will allow security personnel to assess threats before stepping into harm’s way.
The World Cup, scheduled to run from June 11 to July 19, will be jointly hosted by Mexico, the United States and Canada, with several matches taking place in the Monterrey metropolitan area.
According to city authorities, the Guadalupe council acquired the robotic units for about 2.5 million pesos (roughly $145,000). Leaders say the investment is aimed at strengthening preventive security and minimizing risks to human officers, especially during large gatherings expected around the tournament.

In a demonstration video released by the municipality, one of the robots is seen navigating an abandoned structure, climbing stairs and transmitting images to a team of officers trailing behind. At one point, the robotic canine confronts a man carrying a weapon and issues a command through a built-in loudspeaker, ordering him to drop it.
Mayor Hector Garcia said the technology is intended to provide crucial support in early response situations.
“The goal is to back up police officers during initial interventions and safeguard their physical integrity,” Garcia explained, noting that the devices could be deployed whenever an altercation or high-risk scenario arises.
BBVA Stadium — to be referred to as Estadio Monterrey during the competition -is slated to host four World Cup matches, making the area a key focus for security planners.
