The Civil Society Organisations (CSO) in Bauchi state under the umbrella of Bauchi State Network of Civil Society Organizations (BASNEC), has called on the state government to recruit more health workers.

BASNEC chairman, Mr Jinjiri Garba who led other members of the network during the visit asserted that there is a shortage of health workers at health facilities in the state thereby denying the citizens efficient and effective health services.

According to him, the visit was coming when the state government was preparing to draft the 2022 budget, hence, their call on the government to include recruitment of new health workers in the budget.

Jinjiri also advised the Bauchi state primary health care development agency to give special allowances to rural health workers in order to encourage people posted to villages to stay.

The network claimed that at present, many health workers abscond from their duty posts in rural areas and leave patients unattended.

Responding, the chairman of the agency, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed expressed appreciation to the CSO for the visit saying that they and non-governmental organizations have important roles to play in building the state.

He explained that there is a plan by the state government to employ 100 new doctors in the state.
