Eric Dane, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star, Dies at 53

American actor Eric Dane, widely known for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan in the hit television drama Grey’s Anatomy, has died at the age of 53.

His family confirmed that the actor passed away on Thursday following a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurological disease he publicly disclosed in 2025. He was reportedly surrounded by close family members at the time of his death.

Dane rose to international fame through his portrayal of the charismatic plastic surgeon popularly nicknamed “McSteamy” on Grey’s Anatomy, a role that made him a household name and earned him a global fan base. He later appeared in the HBO drama Euphoria, as well as other television and film productions.

Beyond his on-screen achievements, Dane became an advocate for ALS awareness after revealing his diagnosis, drawing attention to the challenges faced by those living with the condition.
