Explosion rocks Zamfara highway, many feared dead

An explosion has rocked the Yar’Tasha, Dansadau highway in Maru Local Government Area, Zamfara State, leaving many travelers feared dead, according to eyewitnesses and preliminary reports.

The blast, which occurred on Saturday afternoon, caused widespread panic among motorists and commuters. Eyewitnesses described seeing vehicles scattered and people fleeing the scene in fear. Videos shared on social media captured the chaos following the incident.

The Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the explosion but said details were still emerging. He assured that security and emergency response teams had been deployed to the site and promised updates as more information became available.

Residents and social media users expressed shock and called on authorities to investigate the incident urgently, prevent further attacks, and bring those responsible to justice.

At this time, the exact number of casualties remains unknown as rescue and assessment operations continue. Authorities have urged travelers to exercise caution and avoid the area until the situation is fully secured.
