The Federal Government has commenced the payment of outstanding 2025 allowances to beneficiaries of the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) scholarship programme studying overseas.
Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja through the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare and academic success of Nigerian students studying abroad.
According to him, the Central Bank of Nigeria has already remitted approved funds to Nigerian embassies and foreign missions for onward disbursement to eligible students.
Alausa explained that the released funds represent 50 per cent of the outstanding 2025 obligations, adding that efforts are ongoing to clear the remaining balance.
He noted that the funds had reached the relevant embassy accounts and that Nigerian missions were expected to begin immediate payment to affected scholars.
The minister advised beneficiaries to monitor their bank accounts, saying payments would begin reflecting soon.
He stated that the development reflects the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the welfare of Nigerian students abroad under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Alausa also commended the patience and understanding shown by the scholars, assuring them that the government remains committed to fulfilling its obligations under the scholarship scheme.
He reiterated the administration’s resolve to sustain policies that promote access to education, student welfare, and human capital development.
