FG brings home 390 stranded Nigerians from Niger Republic

On Tuesday, no fewer than 390 Nigerian migrants, who had been stranded in the Niger Republic, were repatriated to Nigeria.

The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), in partnership with other stakeholders, coordinated the repatriation and reception of the returnees at the Immigration Training School, Kano State (ITSK).

The 390 returnees included 387 adult males, 2 adult females, and 1 infant. Upon their arrival, they were registered and profiled by officials from the NCFRMI and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to ensure proper documentation and facilitate their access to various government reintegration programs.

In a statement read on his behalf by the Kano Field Coordinator, Lubah Liman, NCFRMI Honourable Federal Commissioner Tijjani Aliyu Ahmed reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to supporting the reintegration of the returnees.

Liman highlighted that the returnees would be incorporated into various empowerment initiatives under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to aid their reintegration process.

Ahmed also commended the successful collaboration among all participating agencies, which he credited for ensuring the smooth execution of the repatriation. He emphasized the importance of multi-agency cooperation in addressing migration-related issues effectively.

Key stakeholders at the reception included representatives from the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), the State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
