Governors in Nigeria’s northeast region have called out Federal government agencies for sidelining citizens of the region in recruitments in the country.

The governors who met on Tuesday in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, also discussed other important issues affecting the northeast region.

Borno State governor and Chairman of the Northeast Governors’ Forum, Babagana Zulum, and the rest of the governors arrived in Jalingo for the commencement of the two-day meeting.

In a communiqué issued and signed by the chairman of the forum, Babagana Zulum, the governors jointly agreed, “that while interacting with the Commissioners of the Federal Character Commission, appreciated their effort at ensuring compliance with the Federal Character principle.”

The Forum, however, “expressed dismay over the shortfall noticed in the number of applicants from the region in the recent recruitment into various Federal Agencies.

“The forum, therefore, resolved to follow up with all the concerned agencies to ensure that the region gets its fair share in the recruitments into the concerned agencies.”

“In its bid to reposition Education in the sub-region, the Forum has received a report from the North East Council on Education. It has taken the Councils’ advisory on the improvement of quality and performance of students and teachers screening and training in the region.”

Furthermore, the governors deliberated on how to tackle growing insecurity affecting the region, as well as how to improve and stabilize the region’s agricultural potentials in order to boost the dwindling economy in the northeast.
