FG to install security surveillance system along Abuja-Kaduna highway to tackle insecurity
The federal government has launched a “Project Implementation Committee” to oversee the installation of surveillance systems along the Abuja-Kaduna highway, in a bid to tackle the escalating security challenges, particularly on this vital route.
Henshaw Ogubike, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence, confirmed that this initiative is part of the comprehensive strategies to address the prevalent security issues on highways.
Minister Abubakar Badaru emphasised the inclusion of railways in the coverage of the surveillance systems, noting that this move aims to enhance security measures.

Minister Badaru disclosed that an eight-member committee has been appointed to expedite this project, with a strict deadline of 18 months for successful implementation.
The committee comprises members drawn from the ministry, various services, and other security agencies, and is led by the Director of the Joint Services Department of the Ministry of Defence.
Expressing confidence in the committee’s capabilities, Badaru reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to effectively addressing security concerns on critical transportation routes.
The terms of reference for the committee include ensuring that the surveillance equipment meets technical specifications and recommending any additional measures essential for the successful execution of the surveillance system.
