FIFA World Cup: Senegal beat Ecuador 2-1 to qualify for knockout stages

Senegal have qualified for the round of 16 at the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar after beating Ecuador 2-1 in their last Group A match.

The African side had their first via a penalty and Ibrahim Saar coolly slotted the ball in through the right corner, leaving the Ecuadorian goalkeeper, Galindez static in the middle of his line to make it 1-0 in favour of Senegal before the break.

Ecuador who did not take today’s match to the heart like their previous games managed to level the game 1-1 in the 67th courtesy their midfielder, Moisés Caicedo.

The African champions who needed a win to secure a spot in the next round got their tactics right and Chelsea’s player, Kalidou Koulibaly who was unmarked fired a superb volley straight past Galindez to seal victory for his country.

Elsewhere, Coddy Gakpo and Frenkie De Jong were on goals for the Netherlands to claim victory over hosts, Qatar.

The match which ended 2-0 in favour of Netherlands seeing the Dutch topping Group A.
