Former Delta deputy governor Amos Utuama is dead
Amos Utuama (SAN), the former Deputy Governor of Delta State, has passed away at the age of 77. He died early on Saturday in Warri, Delta State, following a long illness. Utuama was a respected legal scholar and a notable figure in Delta’s political and academic circles.
Utuama served as Delta State’s Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General from 1999 to 2007, establishing a strong legacy in the state’s legal framework. He went on to serve as Deputy Governor from 2007 to 2015, under former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s administration, where he was praised for his dedication to the state’s progress.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori expressed his condolences, describing Utuama as a distinguished scholar and politician whose contributions to the legal profession and state development left a profound impact. “On behalf of the government and people of Delta, I mourn the passing of a gentleman, a scholar, and astute politician. His commitment to Delta’s unity and development will be remembered,” Oborevwori stated.

The Governor’s message, delivered by Chief Press Secretary Festus Ahon, highlighted Utuama’s role as a “world-class academic scholar whose teachings and research immensely contributed to Nigerian jurisprudence.”
The statement also extended heartfelt prayers to Utuama’s family, hoping they find solace during this difficult time.
