Former FEDECO secretary, Ahmadu Kurfi, passes away at 93
Alhaji Ahmadu Kurfi, the former executive secretary of the now-defunct Federal Electoral Commission (FEDECO) during Nigeria’s Second Republic, has passed away at the age of 93.
According to SolaceBase, Kurfi, who also served as the District Head of Kurfi in Katsina State, left behind a rich legacy of public service.
A family member shared that his funeral prayer is set to take place today, Thursday, at 2:30 PM in Kurfi town.

Born in 1931, Kurfi held the prestigious ‘Maradin Katsina’ traditional title in the Katsina Emirate at the time of his death.
Before embracing a role in traditional leadership, he had a distinguished career as a senior civil servant, serving as the deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Defence during the tumultuous period of the 1966 coup.
Additionally, he was appointed as a permanent secretary in the Office of the Head of Service.
Kurfi is perhaps best remembered as the first executive secretary of FEDECO, which was established by the military to facilitate the transition to civilian rule in 1979.
His leadership was pivotal in organising the elections that ultimately led to the presidency of Alhaji Shehu Shagari, marking a significant moment in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
