Fune LGA begins ITN card distribution to 851 communities in fight against malaria
ITN distributed Cards to more than 851 communities targeted Households
While speaking to YBC news in Damagun the Local Government health promotions officer HPO Malam Garba said the distributiin of the cards has commenced early in the morning today
According to him the issuance of the Insecticide-Treated Net (ITN) cards is cover to more than 5,000 households as part of the ongoing statewide malaria prevention campaign.
He added that the distribution kicked off as scheduled, with Community Distributors, partner’s in attendance conducting house-to-house visits to number residences and issue ITN cards.
The exercise is being carried out in collaboration with the Yobe State Primary Health Care Management Board and ITN partners.
Mr Garba, said the campaign is part of an integrated effort combining Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) and ITN distribution to eradicate malaria across the state.
He expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation from residents and noted that the campaign covers Fune as a whole targeting children under five and pregnant women.
During a review meeting, officials identified gaps in household data, noting that some homes had more than 20 occupants while others were not available during registration.
The Health Promotion Officer urged health workers to intensify efforts to cover all areas.
He also called on the distributors of Fune LGA, to ensure that beneficiaries are informed to present their old mosquito nets at the point of collection for proper replacement and disposal.
The campaign is being implemented under the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) with funding support from the Global Fund.

Residents have been urged to ensure that someone is available at home to attend to Community Mobilizes and Distributors (CMDs). Caregivers are also advised to ensure their children complete the three-day malaria prevention drug regimen after the first supervised dose.

Officials further encouraged residents to bring their old or damaged mosquito nets for safe disposal, warning against practices harmful to the environment.
They emphasised that the campaign’s success depends on household participation and adherence to malaria prevention practices such as regular use and proper maintenance of treated nets.
“Malaria is preventable. For a malaria-free Yobe, everyone must play their part — sleep under treated nets and ensure children take the full SPAQ dose,” said the Health Promotion Officer.
Speaking in the same vain the Chairman of Fune LGA Alhaji Baba Goni Bade express his satisfaction with ongoing activity commended the intervention, describing it as helpful.

The campaign is being led by the Yobe State government in collaboration with the Malaria Consortium as part of efforts to eliminate malaria and promote healthy living across the state.
Health officials advised beneficiaries to air new nets under shade for 24 hours before use and to sleep under them nightly. Residents were also reminded that the token slip issued during registration is the only valid document for redeeming a new net. COV/MAG
