Story from Saleh INUWA, Kano

Kano is tensed politically as the unguided manner exhibited by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje where he openly matched on former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s picture on Democracy Day which is threatening to create political instability in the state.

Ganduje political profile cannot be complete if Kwankwaso’s name is not mentioned. In 1999 Kwankwaso and Ganduje contested for the PDP governorship ticket in which it was alleged that Ganduje won the primaries, but because Kwankwaso was the Deputy Speaker Federal House of Representatives before then, the states’ power brokers decided to give Kwankwaso the ticket and asked Ganduje who was the richer to be Deputy Governor and finance their campaign.

Since then, when Kwankwaso won, he was with Ganduje, when they lost to former Governor Shekarau in 2003, former President Obasanjo appointed Kwankwaso a member on NDDC board later Nigeria’s representative to Dafur and finally Defence Minister, in all these, Kwankwaso carried Ganduje along as his personal assistant.

Ganduje himself severally was quoted as saying “…If not because of Kwankwaso, I would have been in the bush rearing a cattle, this is one politician who virtually stood for me and to me, I can refer to him as Sahabi. “Trusted Lieutenants of the Prophet”, he never betrayed me and he stood for me in 2015 to be elected as governor of Kano State”.

But since Ganduje fully settled down as Governor of Kano State, he has subjected Senator Kwankwaso to serious political ridicule, dismantling all his programmes, including stealing the mandate clearly won by Abba Gida Gida, PDP Governorship Candidate in 2019.

At the time of filing this report, our correspondent can report that Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has directed his followers not to reply to Ganduje’s madness and dictatorship and instead, work hard to defeat APC in Kano in 2023, which will give them an opportunity to reverse most of Ganduje’s unpopular programs, like selling strategic lands belonging to the mosque and historical monuments.

Alhajiji Nagoda former Special Adviser to Ganduje on maintenance of graves told our correspondent that Ganduje who is approaching 100 years did not behave like a state’s man by matching Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s picture openly, “But quote me, if we win in Kano in 2023, we are going to deal with this old man who was openly seeing stuffing dollars which he collected as bribe in his pocket”.
