Gov. Buni signs ₦515 billion “transformation budget”, inaugurates new council chair

Story by Sa’adatu MAINA, Damaturu

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, on Tuesday, signed into law the 2026 Appropriation Bill of ₦515 billion, charting a course for what his administration termed “economic growth and infrastructure transformation.”

The signing ceremony, held at the Government House in Damaturu, provides the legal authority for the state’s expenditure in the coming fiscal year.

The budget, formally titled “Budget for Economic Growth and Infrastructure Transformation,” heavily prioritises capital projects, with 62% of the total sum (₦291.9 billion) earmarked for them.

Recurrent expenditure will consume the remaining 38% (₦223.6 billion).

In his remarks, Governor Buni described the budget as a strategic instrument for consolidating developmental gains.

“The signing of this budget reflects our dedication to responsible governance and transformative service delivery,” he stated.

He pledged that implementation would be guided by “transparency, due process, and fiscal discipline.”

The budget figure followed legislative scrutiny, with the Yobe State House of Assembly revising the executive’s initial proposal of ₦550.583 billion down to ₦512.532 billion before final adjustments settled the total at ₦515 billion.

In a related development during the same event, Governor Buni administered the oath of office to Alhaji Adam Jibrin as the new Executive Chairman of Yusufari Local Government Area.
