Gov Buni swears in new appointees, urges integrity, proactive service

Yobe State Governor, Dr Mai Mala Buni, has sworn in a cohort of key appointees and tasked them to uphold the highest standards of integrity while taking a proactive approach to their duties in service to the state.

The newly inaugurated officials include Honourable Yerima Lawan Mahmoud as Commissioner for Livestock Development, Abdullahi Imusa Shehu as Head of Service, Special Advisors Mohamed Bukar Abba Ibrahim and Yahaya Inuwa Barde, and Statistician General Abdirahman Malik.

Governor Buni stated that the ceremony was conducted to fulfil constitutional requirements, thereby empowering the appointees to execute their mandates “legally, efficiently, and effectively.”

Governor Buni highlighted the state’s leading role in the national livestock sector and emphasised that the new ministry is critical for boosting production to meet both local consumption needs and economic export goals.

“I am optimistic that Honourable Yerima Lawan Mahmoud, a grassroots politician and distinguished public servant with over three decades of experience, has the prerequisite qualifications to apply his vast experience and make the new ministry a success,” Governor Buni said.

He outlined ambitious plans for the sector, including heavy investment in new veterinary clinics, water provision, fodder banks, and vaccination programmes to combat transboundary animal diseases.

The governor also commended the outgoing oversight team, led by the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Ali Mustafa Goneri, for successfully steering the new ministry through its initial phase.

Addressing the new Head of Service, Abdullahi Imusa Shehu, Governor Buni expressed confidence in his ability to reinvigorate the civil service.

He urged Shehu to foster teamwork, reward hard work objectively, and be a champion for transparency and due process.

Regarding the new Special Advisors, Governor Buni stated that their roles are vital for strengthening the government’s connection with the electorate, advising them to use their grassroots links to ensure policies reflect the people’s interests.

On the appointment of the Statistician General, the governor explained that Abdirahman Malik’s expertise is crucial for providing the State Bureau of Statistics with verifiable data to guide government policies with greater accuracy and reduce waste.
