Governor Fintiri’s cousin, others killed as Boko Haram, ISWAP launch deadly attack
At least 27 people, including Bademi Papka, the village head of Shuwari and cousin of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, have been killed in a coordinated assault by suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in Adamawa State.
The attackers reportedly stormed the Shuwari Sholi area early Wednesday, riding motorcycles and opening fire on villagers in the market square and surrounding homes. Eyewitnesses said they set several houses ablaze, forcing residents to flee into nearby hills.
Security forces were alerted but arrived after the assailants had withdrawn, leaving destruction and loss of life in their wake. Local authorities are still confirming the total number of casualties.

Former Madagali Local Government chairman, Maina Ularamu, described the incident as “another brutal reminder of the persistent insurgency” in the region, urging the government and security agencies to enhance protection for vulnerable communities.
Adamawa State, along with other parts of northeastern Nigeria, has faced repeated attacks from jihadist groups, raising concerns over the safety of civilians and the effectiveness of security measures in the region.
Residents continue to appeal for urgent intervention as investigations and recovery efforts are underway.
