Gov. Fintiri advocates for female running mates in LG election

Story from Usman UMAR

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has urged the leadership of the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to ensure that women are chosen as chairmanship running mates for the upcoming local government elections in the state.

The governor, who issued the directive in Yola, the state capital, during a stakeholders’ meeting, emphasized his administration’s dedication to promoting gender equality throughout the state.

The instruction, according to him, is intended to empower women and encourage their increased participation in the political process of the state.

This, he added, will also help boost female representation in local councils’ governance.

In a separate development, Fintiri, pardoned five prison inmates, four males and one female to commemorate the Democracy Day on June 12, 2024.

The amnesty was announced in a statement issued to journalists in Yola by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humoashi Wonosiko.

The released inmates include Hapsatu Idi, the only female among them, as well as Ali Abdul, Mohammed Goni, Buba Usman, and Babala Benson.

The governor also changed the death sentences of two convicts, Usman Inuwa and Joseph Eugene, to life imprisonment.

The governor’s decision, as stated in the statement, was made based on the recommendation of the Advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy and the authority given to him by Section 212(i) (d) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended.
