Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara state has warned against anyone in the business of spreading lies and false rumours through pictures or any other media that are not true reflections of the incidents and happenings in any part of the state. He vowed to arrest and prosecute anybody found in such acts no matter how highly placed such persons or groups are in the society.

Governor Matawalle gave the warning at Government House while receiving eight AK47 rifles, one pistol and twelve rounds of ammunition voluntarily surrendered to the government by one of the repentant bandits, Saleh Kawajo Kuyambana.

The governor accused his predecessor Abdulaziz Yari of instigating violence and security breach in the state.

He said the ex-governor is instigating his boys against the security development so far reached following the peace deal with bandits.

Governor Matawalle said he observed that this was the third time the Governor will visit the State and it will be followed by a security breach, noting that it was too much for mere coincidences and so blamed it on the unlawful gathering that the former Governor always organized.

Matawalle explained that security is the responsibility of all, and wondered why some people such as ex-governor Yari and his followers are not happy with the current development in which the security of the state has been significantly improved.

The governor who was earlier billed to travel to Germany to discuss investments into the state had to cancel the trip because of the unfortunate incident that occurred in Karaye village of Gummi Local Government area that resulted in the loss of 14 innocent souls.

Matawalle wondered why some of the supporters of the former governor were peddling lies that the governor had traveled out of the country just to create unnecessary tension and anger in the state.

He reassured that he will not compromise or allow some failed politicians to destroy the State for their personal interests.

The Governor also commended the repentant bandits for surrendering the arms voluntarily and urged those that are yet to embrace the state peace initiative to hasten to do so before the law catches up with them.

He presented the arms to the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Usman Nagoggo and promised to intensify efforts in addressing the security challenges facing the State.
