Governors endorse bill to create reserved legislative seats for women
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has thrown its weight behind a bill seeking to establish reserved seats for women in the National and State Assemblies.
In a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting in the early hours of Friday, the governors expressed full support for the proposed constitutional amendment and urged members to lobby both federal and state lawmakers to ensure its passage.
The bill aims to create special constituencies to be contested exclusively by women as a temporary measure to increase female representation and participation in governance across the country.
The governors also commended the Federal Government’s fiscal and monetary policies—particularly those implemented by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)—for their role in stabilizing the national economy.
Additionally, the forum reaffirmed its commitment to addressing Nigeria’s security challenges. The governors pledged closer collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to counter emerging threats and strengthen national safety
