Spanish football coach Pep Guardiola has urged fans to support a charity match scheduled for Tuesday, 18 November in Barcelona, where a Palestinian team will face a Catalan select side. Organisers say all ticket proceeds will be channelled into humanitarian aid and community development projects in Palestine.

The initiative adds to Guardiola’s long-standing record of supporting humanitarian causes. Over the years, he has personally contributed to refugee rescue missions in the Mediterranean, including significant donations to the NGO Proactiva Open Arms, which provides emergency assistance to migrants and asylum seekers at sea. Guardiola has also funded repairs for one of the organisation’s rescue boats and used his public platform to advocate for the protection of vulnerable populations.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Guardiola donated €1 million to support medical efforts in Spain, helping to provide essential equipment and supplies to health facilities.

Analysts say his involvement in the upcoming charity match is consistent with his pattern of using global sports visibility to highlight humanitarian concerns. The game is expected to draw a large audience, as fans and human rights supporters rally behind the fundraising effort for civilians affected by the crisis in Palestine.

The event positions football once again as a tool for global solidarity, with Guardiola’s participation underscoring the broader role public figures can play in spotlighting international humanitarian issues.
