Gunmen attack Katsina LG Chairman’s home, kill police escort

Gunmen, believed to be bandits, have attacked the private residence of Matazu Deyi, the Executive Chairman of Malumfashi Local Government Area (LGA) in Katsina State, resulting in the death of his security aide.

According to reliable sources, the incident took place late Tuesday night, when the assailants killed Shamsudeen Lawal, a police corporal assigned to protect the LG boss. While it remains unclear if there were any other injuries, reports indicate that the attempt to break into the residence was ultimately foiled.

The Executive Chairman and his family were present at the time of the attack, and significant damage was caused to parts of the house.

Malumfashi, like several other local government areas in the state, has become increasingly vulnerable to insecurity, with frequent terrorist attacks in rural communities. In recent months, banditry, including killings, abductions, and cattle rustling, has claimed numerous victims across the region.

In response, the state government, through its Community Watch Corps (CWC), has been collaborating with security agencies to combat the growing threat, particularly in areas near forest reserves, which are often used by the criminals as hideouts.

At the time of this report, the police spokesperson, DSP Sadiq Aliyu, had not responded to requests for comment or issued a statement regarding the incident.
