Gunmen attack Plateau LG, kill Chief Imam, okada rider

In another tragic attack by terrorists, the Chief Imam of Jumma’at Mosque in Ndun village, Tangur District of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State, Malam Muhammad Sani Idris, and an ‘okada rider’ named Muhammad Gambo, have been killed.

Garba Abdullahi, the Chairman of Gan Allah Fulani Development Association (GAFDAN), confirmed the incident, revealing that the younger brother of the slain Imam, Salisu Muhammad Sani Idris, sustained injuries during the attack and is currently undergoing treatment at Dung Hospital in Bokkos town.

The attack occurred shortly after the victims arrived at the community to retrieve belongings left behind in the aftermath of recent assaults where houses belonging to GAFDAN members were set ablaze. The assailants targeted the Imam and his younger brother, resulting in the tragic death of the religious leader and injuries to the sibling.

In a separate incident, Muhammed Gambo, an okada rider and GAFDAN member, lost his life near Bokkos market on Monday while transporting a passenger to the area.

The two incidents have been reported to the Police and Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) in Bokkos, with authorities urged to take immediate action.

This surge in violent clashes underscores the ongoing challenges in Plateau State, where conflicts between herders and farming communities continue to escalate.

The visit of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, and service chiefs to assess the security situation and offer condolences to victims reflects the gravity of the situation and the need for concerted efforts to quell the recurring violence.
