Gunmen attack Taraba market, kill businessman, 2 traders

In a tragic incident, a Taraba market known as Didango was invaded by gunmen suspected to be part of an ethnic militia. The attack resulted in the untimely deaths of two traders and a businessman, while several others sustained injuries.

The assailants, armed with sophisticated weapons, stormed the market on Wednesday evening, causing havoc and making off with valuable items worth millions of naira.

Yakubu Adamu, a resident of the town, recounted the terrifying incident. He revealed that the attackers came from a nearby village, seemingly without any prior provocation or dispute between the communities involved.

The unwarranted assault took place during market hours, with the attackers launching their offensive at around 9pm. However, the bravery of the town’s youth managed to counter the attack, forcing the militia to retreat back to their village, situated approximately four kilometers away from Didango.

Bello Dauda, another resident, expressed his belief that the motive behind the militia’s aggression was to instigate fresh ethnic conflicts in the area, raising concerns about the potential consequences.

SP Usman Abdullahi, the Taraba State Police Command spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that one person lost their life and five others were wounded.

In response to the attack, two suspects have been apprehended and are currently assisting the police in their investigation to uncover the masterminds behind this gruesome incident.
