Gunmen kill three immigration officers, burn patrol vehicle in Kebbi

Story by Susan Mbamah

Three personnel of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) were shot dead late Thursday when armed attackers stormed a security checkpoint in Bakin Ruwa, Bagudu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The assailants, believed to be members of the Lakurawa militia, reportedly opened fire on the officers manning the post before setting their patrol vehicle ablaze. The checkpoint shelter was also razed, leaving behind burnt wreckage and shattered structures.

The incident was first reported by security analyst Bakatsine, who shared footage of the aftermath on X.
“Gunmen suspected to be Lakurawa attacked the NIS checkpoint in Bakin Ruwa, Bagudu LGA, killing three officers, burning a patrol vehicle, and destroying the shelter,” he posted.

He further raised concerns about the broader security situation in the area, asking what measures communities and authorities must adopt to enhance safety.

Residents say the attack has heightened fears in Bagudu, a corridor that has witnessed increased activity by armed groups in recent months. Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement as of the time of filing this report.

The incident adds to a rising wave of violent assaults across northern Nigeria, prompting renewed calls for stronger security responses and preventive strategies.
