Househelp faces life imprisonment for defiling employer’s 10-year-old daughter
The Gender Section of the Lagos State Police Command has apprehended Usman Musa, a domestic staff, for the alleged defilement of his employer’s 10-year-old daughter.
The incident happened in Ishola Yusuf Street, Iloro area of Agege, Lagos, where the family resides.
According to police reports, Musa is accused of repeatedly defiling the young victim, exploiting his position as a domestic staff to instill fear in her. He allegedly threatened to poison her if she disclosed the abuse to her mother, causing the child to keep the traumatic experience to herself.
The matter came to light when the victim’s mother noticed changes in her daughter’s behaviour and inquired about the cause.
The girl eventually confided in her mother, revealing the abuse and the domestic staff’s threats.
Subsequently, the case was reported to the Dopemu Division of the Police, leading to Musa’s arrest. He was later transferred to the Gender Section of the State Command for further investigation.
After a thorough interrogation, the police found Musa culpable and brought charges against him before the Ogba Magistrates Court. The alleged offense carries severe penalties, including several years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.

During the arraignment, the presiding Magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubenije, refrained from taking Musa’s plea. Instead, at the request of the prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, the court scheduled a hearing date and decided to refer the matter to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice due to the gravity of the alleged offense.
Magistrate Kubenije ordered Musa’s remand in custody at the correctional centre in Kirikiri town, pending the DPP’s advice. The prosecutor was directed to duplicate the case file and submit it to the DPP.
The court adjourned the matter until February 6, 2024, for mention, awaiting the DPP’s advice, which will determine if the case will be transferred to the High Court based on jurisdiction.
