A Nigerian mother, identified simply as Ella, has called for justice following the tragic death of her two-year-old daughter at a school in Lagos.
Ella took to social media on Thursday, sharing the harrowing ordeal in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter). She explained that her daughter, who left home for school on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, did not return alive.
“Dear Lagos State Government, our daughter of two years old went to school yesterday (Wednesday) and did not return alive. How do you have a pool in school premises without proper monitoring?” Ella wrote in her post.
Ella further alleged that the school, Smiley Nursery and Primary School, attempted to cover up the true cause of her daughter’s death. She claimed that while the school initially reported that her daughter had drowned in the pool, investigations revealed that she had been electrocuted, and her body was later dumped in the pool to simulate a drowning.
“They lied she drowned in the pool, but we have been able to find out that it’s electrocution, and they dropped her in the pool to look as if it was drowning,” Ella revealed.

Ella expressed her anger over the school’s safety practices, questioning how a two-year-old could have accessed the pool, which was reportedly surrounded by barricades.
“The pool has barricades. How can a child of two years climb? Please help us get justice for our baby. She just celebrated her second birthday in November last year,” she said.
Ella also accused the school of misleading other parents, claiming that they were being told the school was closed for maintenance instead of addressing the truth about the incident.
“If nothing is done to close down that school, other parents may cry for their own kids attending the school,” she warned.
Ella’s heartbreaking account has sparked widespread outrage, with many expressing support and calling for a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding her daughter’s death.
As of now, the Lagos State Government and the school have not issued a public statement regarding the incident. However, the case has drawn attention to the need for stricter safety measures and accountability in educational institutions.
