I turned down ₦5b bribe to support Fubara’s impeachment – Ehi
The Chief of Staff to suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Edison Ehie, has alleged that he was offered a ₦5billion bribe to impeach his principal when he was a leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
He said he will reveal the person who made the offer soon.
Ehie, who spoke on Channels Television on Sunday night accused the suspended speaker, Martins Amaewhule of masterminding the bombing of the Rivers State Assembly complex in 2023.

He said after 6:00 pm, only the speaker has the power to access the Assembly complex, asserting that since the incident took place at night, Amaewhule and his colleagues should be questioned.
He said suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara was not responsible for the bombing of the Assembly complex, saying ‘Fubara is a peaceful man and cannot do such’
Ehie said: “The governor is a man of peace. The governor decided to follow the way of conflict resolution. In October, I was approached with ₦5billion bribe against the governor but I refused. The bribe was for impeachment, but I turned it down.”
On the allegations of the resigned Head of Service, George Nwaeke, on the bombing of the State Assembly, Ehie said he had no hand in the arson and accused Nwaeke of monetary compromise to implicate him.
He expressed surprise that Nwaeke after serving for about 35 years could be allowed to be bullied to make such allegations, adding that what the former HoS presented to the public was a script allegedly written for him to implicate the governor and him in the political crisis in the State.
He disclosed that he has directed his lawyer to file a suit against the former HoS.
“It is very important to clarify that I was not, have no hand in the burning down of the Rivers State House of Assembly,” he said.
Ehie revealed that “George Nwaeke resigned on March 24, 2025, and by Tuesday, March 25, 2025, he was appealing that the governor should give him some money.
“The governor wouldn’t have given him money at that time because he has already tendered his resignation letter, stating that he cannot work with a government that is not led by Governor Siminalayi Fubara,” he said.
