Ibadan Stampede: Court grants ₦10m bail to ex-Queen Naomi, two others
Justice Kamorudeen Olawoyin of the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has granted ₦10m bail to three suspects remanded over a food queue stampede that resulted in the deaths of 35 minors in Ibadan on 18 December 2024.
The ₦10 million bail includes two sureties who must submit landed documents within the court’s jurisdiction.
The three suspects are ex-Queen Naomi Silekunola, Ibadan-based broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat and school principal Abdullahi Fasasi.
The accused are facing four counts of conspiracy, acceleration of death, negligent acts causing harm, and failure to provide adequate security and medical facilities.
On Monday, the Oyo State Government filed eight charges, including murder and manslaughter, against Naomi Silekunola, the former queen of the Ooni of Ife; Oriyomi Hamzat, and the two other defendants.

The tragic stampede occurred on December 18, 2024, during a children’s funfair, which resulted in the deaths of 35 children.
The charge sheet, marked I/05C/2025, was submitted to the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan on Friday, January 10, 2025.
The Oyo State Government is listed as the complainant, while Silekunola, Hamzat, and Fasasi are the defendants.
