Oyomesi snub event as Gov. Makinde presents staff of office to new Alaafin

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has officially presented the certificate and staff of office to the new Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, solidifying his position as the revered traditional ruler.

The brief, yet significant ceremony took place on Monday at the Executive Council Chambers of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat Agodi, Ibadan.

Dignitaries in attendance included Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal, former Oyo Speaker Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, religious leaders, and several High Chiefs from Oyo Town.

Professor Wande Abimbola, the respected Ifa Custodian known as the Awise Awo Agbaye, who conducted the Ifa divination for the monarch’s selection, was also present.

Notably, members of the Oyomesi, the traditional council responsible for selecting the Alaafin, were absent from the event.

The presentation marks a new chapter for the Oyo Kingdom under Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade’s leadership.
