IGP orders nationwide security crackdown ahead of festive season
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has directed Commissioners of Police across the country to intensify raids on blackspots, forests, and criminal hideouts as part of heightened security measures for the Yuletide season.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the IGP also ordered strengthened collaboration between police commands, other security agencies, and community stakeholders to ensure a safe and peaceful festive period.
Hundeyin noted that police personnel and operational assets have been strategically deployed nationwide to maintain security throughout Christmas and New Year celebrations.
According to him, Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and State Commissioners of Police have been mandated to scale up patrols, visibility policing, intelligence-driven operations, and public confidence-building activities.

Specialised units, including the Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Command, Intelligence Response Team, and Special Intervention Squad, have been placed on high alert. The Special Tactical Squad, Highway Patrol teams, Marine Police officers, and the Air Wing unit will also be actively involved.
The operations will focus on worship centres, recreational spots, markets, parks, event venues, transport hubs, highways, critical infrastructure, and other public areas with high human traffic. Additional patrol and surveillance teams have been deployed along interstate routes to curb road-related crimes, traffic infractions, and accidents.
Hundeyin said deployed officers have been instructed to remain professional, firm, and respectful in their engagements with citizens.
The IGP extended his festive greetings to Nigerians and urged the public to stay vigilant, report suspicious activities, and celebrate responsibly. He assured that the police force remains committed to delivering a peaceful and crime-free Yuletide season for citizens across the country.
