“I’m Ready for War”: Dele Farotimi vows defiance amid legal battle

Renowned human rights activist and lawyer, Dele Farotimi, has declared his resolve to fight back in an ongoing legal battle with a fiery statement that has captured national attention.

Breaking his silence on X (formerly Twitter), Farotimi boldly stated, “I’m ready for war.” The activist detailed his emotional and mental preparedness, expressing gratitude for the support of allies and vowing to take on his adversaries with renewed determination.

“My battle axes are newly sharpened, my guns primed. I am ready to war. My resolve was NEVER tested, but I was waiting for the next round of the fight to commence.”

Farotimi’s defiance comes weeks after his release on a ₦30 million bail by a Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti. He was detained following accusations of defamation against Afe Babalola, a prominent Senior Advocate of Nigeria and founder of Afe Babalola University.

Farotimi accused unnamed forces of failing to break his spirit during his imprisonment, adding that his resolve has been strengthened for the battles ahead.

“I knew that the first round had been lost by those responsible for my imprisonment. But I am strong enough to rumble unruffled against principalities and powers,” he added in his impassioned post.

The allegations against Farotimi stem from statements he reportedly made about Afe Babalola, which the legal luminary deemed defamatory. The case has drawn widespread attention due to its implications for freedom of expression and human rights advocacy in Nigeria.

Farotimi’s defiance has sparked solidarity among activists and legal professionals, with many calling for greater protection of human rights defenders in Nigeria.
