INEC postpones Senatorial by-election in 12 states

Story from Kenneth AFOR, Lagos

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has postponed the Senatorial by-election slated for October 31st, 2020 in Lagos State and 11 other states.

This was made known on Thursday by the National Commissioner & Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye.

The Commission had already scheduled the elections totalling 15 (six Senatorial and nine State House of Assembly) in 12 states across the country to hold on the said date, but after the meeting with the 37 Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), the election had to be postponed.

Although, it did not state the reason for the postponement but may not be far from the current #EndSARS protests across the country.

For Lagos State, 12 candidates from 12 political parties are vying for the Lagos East Senatorial seat, while eight parties are fielding candidates for the Kosofe Constituency II, Lagos Assembly by-election.

The local government areas in the senatorial district are Somolu, Ikorodu, Ibeju-Lekki, Epe and Kosofe.
