Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Editor to join our team and oversee the English aspect of Neptune Prime and Neptune Prime Podcast. The ideal candidate should have experience in journalism, exceptional editing skills, and a deep understanding of the North East region, especially in the humanitarian context.
Key Responsibilities:
- Content Editing: Review, edit, and proofread news articles, features, and audio scripts to ensure clarity, accuracy, and adherence to editorial standards.
- Content Strategy: Collaborate with writers and content producers to develop and execute content strategies that align with NEPTUNE’s mission and audience preferences.
- Story Selection: Identify relevant and impactful news stories and topics for coverage, with a focus on the North East region.
- Quality Control: Ensure that all content published on Neptune Prime and Neptune Prime Podcast meets high-quality standards, including grammar, style, and factual accuracy.
- News Reporting: When necessary, contribute to news reporting by conducting research and interviews and writing articles or creating audio content.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with the editorial team, writers, and producers to maintain a cohesive and engaging editorial voice.
- Audience Engagement: Monitor audience feedback and engagement metrics to continuously improve content quality and relevance.
- Humanitarian Context: Leverage knowledge of the humanitarian context in the North East to provide insightful and well-informed coverage of related issues.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as an editor in a digital newsroom or media organization.
- Excellent command of the English language, including grammar, punctuation, and style.
- Familiarity with audiovisual content production and podcasting is a plus.
- In-depth knowledge of the North East region and its humanitarian context.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
- Proficiency in using content management systems and editing software.
Desirable:
- Experience covering news and events in the North East region.
- Previous work with humanitarian organizations or knowledge of humanitarian issues.
- Based in Abuja, Nigeria.
