Warri Refinery resumes operations
The Warri Refining and Petrochemicals Company (WRPC) has officially begun operations, signalling progress in Nigeria’s efforts to boost local refining capacity.
The announcement was made by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, during a tour of the facility on Monday, December 30, 2024.
Kyari noted that while repairs on the refinery are not yet fully completed, production activities have already commenced.

He stated, “We are taking you through our plant. This plant is running. Although it is not 100 per cent complete, we are still in the process. Many people think these things are not real. They think real things are not possible in this country. We want you to see that this is real.”
This development comes just weeks after the 60,000-barrel-per-day Port Harcourt Refinery resumed operations, marking a significant milestone in revitalising Nigeria’s refining sector.
