#JusticeForSylvester: Days after student’s death, Dowen College speaks

Barely two weeks after the tragic death of a 12-year-old secondary school student of Dowen College, Sylvester Oromoni Jr. who was allegedly tortured by his fellow students, the school has issued a statement.

In a press release dated December 4, 2021, the school sympathises with the family of the deceased.

While the school is currently shut down as ordered by the Lagos State Government and the premises sealed by the state police command, the school stated that it is committed in assisting the authorities get to the bottom of the matter as investigation commences.

Part of the statement reads, “The tragic and unfortunate incident which transpired this past November and Sylvester’s untimely death requires a thorough and proper investigation.

“Dowen College is fully committed to this.

“We are assisting the authorities to get to the bottom of of this heartbreaking incident.

“The first steps taken by school in conjunction with Ministry of Education has been the immediate closure of the school to aid in the investigation.

“We commiserate with the Oromoni family, and the students of Dowen College who have lost a friend and fellow student.

“We assure our parents that the school is taking steps to ensure the safety and security of their children and wards.”

Meanwhike, father of the deceased, Mr Sylvester Oromoni has said his son will not be buried until the truth surrounding the death of his son is revealed.
